Gift Registry & Cash Fund Terms
Last updated: August 7, 2026
These terms apply to anyone who creates an EventCloud registry (a 'host') and to anyone who views one or contributes to one (a 'guest'). They form part of the Terms of Service.
1. What a registry is
An EventCloud registry is a hosted wishlist. Hosts add items with a title, description, photo, price and an optional link to an outside retailer, and may also add one or more cash funds. Guests can mark an item as purchased or contribute money to a cash fund.
2. External store links
EventCloud does not sell registry items, hold inventory, ship anything, or take part in transactions completed on other websites. When a guest follows a store link, that purchase is governed entirely by the retailer's own terms, pricing, availability, delivery and returns policies. Prices shown on a registry are the host's own entry and may be out of date.
Marking an item as purchased is a courtesy signal to other guests. It does not create an order, reserve stock, or obligate anyone to buy anything.
3. Cash funds
A cash fund lets guests send money to the host through EventCloud's payment partner. Contributions are:
- Gifts, not purchases. A guest receives no goods or services in return, and no contract of sale is formed.
- Voluntary. Suggested amounts are suggestions only.
- Final. Because a gift is not a purchase, contributions are generally non-refundable once they have settled. See section 5.
A processing fee is disclosed on the contribution screen before a guest confirms. The host receives the contribution less that fee.
4. Payouts to hosts
Contributions are collected by our payment partner and released to the host after settlement, which is typically several business days after the contribution and may be longer around an event date or where identity verification is outstanding. EventCloud may hold, delay or reverse a payout where we reasonably suspect fraud, a chargeback risk, a disputed registry, or a breach of these terms.
Hosts are responsible for providing accurate payout and identity details. EventCloud is not a bank and does not hold funds on deposit for hosts.
5. Refunds, chargebacks and errors
If a guest contributes in error, they should contact the host first. Where the funds have not yet been released, we will consider a refund request made within 7 days of the contribution. Once funds are released to the host, refunds are a matter between the guest and the host.
Where a guest raises a card chargeback, we may deduct the disputed amount plus any bank fee from the host's balance or invoice the host for it.
6. Tax
Genuine personal gifts are generally not taxable income to the recipient in most jurisdictions, but we do not give tax advice and rules vary. Hosts are solely responsible for reporting and paying any tax that applies to funds they receive, including where a "fund" is in substance a payment for goods, services, tickets or admission — which is not permitted (section 7).
7. What registries may not be used for
- Selling goods or services, ticketing, admission charges, or fundraising for a business.
- Charitable solicitation, political fundraising, or crowdfunding of medical, legal or debt costs.
- Any event that is not real, or any registry created for someone else without their permission.
- Regulated, illegal, adult, weapon, gambling or hazardous items, or anything prohibited by the Acceptable Use policy.
- Collecting money you do not intend to use for the event you describe.
We may unpublish a registry, cancel pending contributions and close an account for any of the above.
8. Guest privacy
When a guest claims an item or contributes, we collect their name, email address, contribution amount and any message, and share it with the host so they can thank them. Guests may contribute without a public display name where the host has enabled that option. Payment card details are handled by our payment partner and never stored by EventCloud.
9. Public registry pages
A published registry has a public web address that anyone with the link can open, and it may be indexed by search engines unless the host protects it with a password. Hosts should not put home addresses, financial details or other sensitive information on a registry page.
10. Availability and liability
Registries are provided as-is. EventCloud is not liable for gifts that do not arrive, retailer errors, duplicated purchases, items marked as claimed in error, or losses arising from a guest's dealings with a third-party retailer. Our overall liability is limited as set out in the Terms of Service.
