How to Plan a Denver Wedding: A Realistic Timeline and Budget Guide
A realistic month-by-month timeline, what to budget first, and how Colorado's weather and altitude shape your date.
Published August 20, 2026

Denver has become one of the most requested wedding destinations in the country — mountain backdrops twenty minutes from downtown, a walkable urban core for guests flying in, and a shoulder season that stretches further than most people expect. But "beautiful setting" and "easy to plan" aren't the same thing, especially with Colorado's elevation and weather swings to work around.
Start with the calendar, not the venue
Denver's wedding season effectively runs May through October, with June and September carrying the least weather risk — late spring can still bring snow above 6,000 feet, and July/August afternoons regularly bring fast-moving thunderstorms if you're booking anything outdoors or in the mountains. If your heart is set on a mountain ceremony (Boulder, Evergreen, Estes Park are all within striking distance), build a rain plan into your contract before you fall in love with the view.
Budget in this order
Venue and catering first (they eat the largest share and have the least flexibility on date availability), photography and videography second (Denver's best photographers book 9–12 months out for peak-season Saturdays), then everything else. Altitude affects more than hiking — catering menus, bar service, and even flowers can need adjusting for the climate, so ask any vendor you're considering how many Colorado weddings they've actually worked.
Guest travel matters more here than in most cities
A large share of Denver weddings are at least partially "destination" for someone in the guest list, thanks to direct flights into DEN from most major hubs. Build in a welcome event or shuttle plan if your venue is outside the city core — Denver traffic to the mountains on a Friday afternoon is its own kind of rehearsal-dinner hazard.
Timeline at a glance
- 9–12 months out: lock venue + date, book photographer
- 6–9 months out: catering, florals, music, save-the-dates
- 3–4 months out: invitations, rentals, hair/makeup trials
- 4–6 weeks out: final headcount, seating, timeline to vendors
If you want a running start on the planning side — a shared event board, a budget tracker, and a running to-do list you can share with your partner — EventCloud's free planning tools are built for exactly this stage, before you've locked a single vendor.
